Dance Therapy
The psychotherapeutic use of movement and dance to support intellectual, emotional, and motor functions of the body is termed as Dance movement therapy (DMT). It is a form of expressive therapy. The theory of dance therapy is based mainly upon the belief that body and mind interact in coordinated manner. The body movement of the person is based on the dualist mind body. The body movement (conscious and unconscious) of the person, based on the mind body dualistic premise, affects total functioning. It also reflects the individual’s personality and has curative potential for anxiety, depression and obsession. As per needs of the client a variety of approaches to dance and movement are used, by the practitioner they are familiar with adapted to the frame of DMT.
